COACH SURVEY: 2021 Best Ever Clinic

Baseball Ontario, in response to the current state of the world, has determined that the Best Ever Clinic will not be an in-person event in January 2021.

We've included this story in the Inside Pitch so the wider audience can let us know if a virtual Best Ever clinic is of interest to you! The format would be essentially the same with these fan favourites being part of the event:

· outstanding lineup of professional and collegiate main-stage presenters

· Vendor Trade Show

· BEC Theatre

· NCCP Clinics

The registration fee would be reasonable and appropriate to the offerings.

Please answer our survey question by Sunday, August 2nd!

RETURN TO SPORT UPDATES!

1- Inter-Provincial Travel

· Baseball Ontario has lifted the ban on inter-provincial travel, effective immediately.

· Teams travelling to other provinces to play will have to comply with the requirements of both Baseball Ontario, and the province to which they are travelling.

· Out of country travel is still not permitted, and that suspension is in place until at least December 31, 2020.

2- Spectators

· We are clarifying our protocols with respect to Spectators, based on the government's gathering limits in Stage 3.

· Baseball Ontario implemented the “one spectator per player” when things were just going to move into Phase 2 for the first time. Our concern was that the Province would simply have a maximum gathering size number that would include players, coaches, umpires and spectators.Hence, why we put a limit on until we reached 100.

· What the Province has done for Stage 3 is allow for 50 player league bubbles + 100 spectators per event.

· We consider what the province has done to meet our threshold of +100 persons. Therefore, we are allowing more than 1 spectator per player, up to the provincial threshold limit of 100 spectators. We anticipate that there will not be more than 100 spectators at any event.

3- Meeting with

MPP & Provincial Sport Organizations (PSO)

Baseball Ontario was fortunate, along with 19 other Provincial Sport Organizations (PSO), to sit down virtually with MPP Dave Smith to discuss the concerns and challenges amateur sport is facing during the current pandemic

Ed Quinlan shared our COVID-19 response plan and what we have been able to achieve through this difficult time. In addition, we had the opportunity to present two of our concerns.

1. The risk of liability in reopening from COVID‐19 as a result of no pandemic insurance.

2. Second, For the first time in the government’s reopening plan, a bubble has been created for team sports with the cap of leagues of 50 players, making a distinction between team sports and other sports and recreation fitness activities.

Several of the other PSOs expressed similar concerns, so we know we’re certainly not alone. We look forward to a follow-up meeting in a couple of weeks.
