When are Extra Innings Played?, Tournament Weekend, WOBA Championship Tournaments (Western Ontario Baseball Association)

PrintWhen are Extra Innings Played?

Pool play games or games in a double elimination format leading up to the semi final and/or final game would be timed games as set out in the tournament rules for each division .  Run limits and mercy thresholds would apply as set out in the WOBA tournament rules for each division.  There is no open innings in preliminary tournament format.

However, in a double knockout format if the game is tied at the time limit, extra innings must be played to determine a winner.  This format requires a winner and a loser to advance accordingly through this type of format schedule.

In pool play if the game is tied at the time limit the game stands in a tie.  Tie breaker rules will apply for pools where teams are tied in standings to advance to semi-final/finals.

Semi final games may not be timed and is an option of the convenor when preparing the schedule to decide if the semi final game(s) is timed or not times and a full 7 innings to be played. Mercy rule does apply.  If there is a tie at the end of the inning at the time limit, then extra innings are played.  If still tied after the next complete inning the game continues until a winner is declared.

All championship games are not timed and a full 7 innings is played. Mercy rule does apply.

If there is a tie at the end of 7 innings, then extra innings are played.  If still tied after 8 innings the game continues until a winner is declared.
