Tournament Play Guidelines for Round Robin Format/Pool Play
- For tournament play beginning on a weekday, games may not start earlier than 4:00 pm.
- Games on a weekend may begin as early as 8:00 am.
- No game shall start after 9:30pm on any day and no new inning may begin after 12:59 am (or such earlier time as may be provided by local by-law or park curfew)
- If a published schedule has a team starting a game at 8:30 pm or later, then the team cannot be scheduled to play earlier than 9:00 am on the following day.
- In the case of a rained out tournament, games shall be completed in the week following the original scheduled dates. The Convenor and VP or designate will work with the teams to complete the tournament schedule.
- Completing the tournament as close as possible to the original date is required.
- Rookie teams shall not play more than 3 games in a calendar day.
- For the 2020 season's championship tournaments WOBA will be using 2019 arm care/pitch limitations. In all divisions 10/11U to 18U no team shall play more than 3 games in a calendar day.
- League year-end standings shall determine the home team in the first round of games. Regardless of the tournament format, whereby the team finishing with the higher standing during season play will be the "home" team for their first tournament game.
- Coin flip not required in the first round of games but shall be used for all games thereafter. It is recommended that the "heads" or "tail" call be made prior to the flip of the coin or while the coin is in mid air.
- Objective is to guarantee the teams a minimum of 3 games.
- Tied scores will stand in Pool Played games.
- Point system used during pool play: 2 pts for win, 1 pt for tie game, 0 for loss
- OBA tie-breaker rules shall be used for determining team advancing to semi or final game.
4 Team Tournament
League standings 1 thru 4 determine "home" team in R1 game. Each Team plays 3 round robin games against each other to determine seeding for Semis and/ or Championship.
R1 Friday night:1 vs 2; 3 vs 4
R2 Saturday: 1 vs 3; 2 vs 4
R3 Saturday:1 vs 4; 2 vs 3
Teams seeded to determine advancement for Sunday play, using tie breaker rules if necessary.
Two choices for scheduling Sunday's games:
1) R4 Sunday -Semi Finals : Seed 1 vs Seed 4; Seed 2 vs Seed 3
R5 Sunday -Championship Game : Winners of the two semi final games
2)Top two seeded teams advance directly to the championship game
R4 Sunday -Championship Game: Seed 1 vs Seed 2
5 Team Tournament
Pool play format is used for the 5 team tournament guaranteeing all teams play 4 games. Team with the higher seed is home for their first game in R1. Games are 5 innings, time limit of no new inning after 80 minutes of play. After round robin completed the Teams are seeded 1 thru 5. Top two teams will play for the championship. (amended with BOD approval Nov 7-22)
Double elimination format may be used for the 5 team tournament. An extra game is added to the schedule to fulfill the guarantee of 3 games.
R1 Friday night:1-BYE, no game on Friday; Gm#1- 2 vs 5; Gm#2- 3 vs 4
R2 Saturday:Gm#3- Loser Gm#1 vs Loser Gm#2;Gm#4- Team 1(R1 BYE) vs Winner Gm#2; Winner Gm#1 receives BYE
R3 SaturdayGm#5- Winner 3 vs Loser 4;Gm#6- Winner 1(R2 BYE) vs Winner 4;
R4 Saturday: Gm #7- Loser #3 vs Loser #5 (an extra game added to schedule to represent the 3rd guaranteed game for teams)
A this point in the tournament three teams remain and one is undefeated. If the undefeated is (3-0), it automatically receives the BYE to R5.
If the undefeated team is (2-0), the bye goes to the team that has not yet had a BYE. If more than one team is eligible for the bye, then draw for the bye.
R5 Sunday:Gm#8- two teams play, the third team has the BYE
Option A:
R6 Sunday:If two teams remain:
Gm#9- R5 BYE vs Winner 7 Championship Game
R7 Sunday:Gm#10- (if necessary game: only if both teams have 1 loss) sudden death Championship Game
Option B:
R6 Sunday:If three teams remain draw for the BYE. No team is awarded a second bye until all remaining teams have had one bye.
Gm#9- two teams play, the third team has the BYE
R7 Sunday:Gm#10- R6 BYE vs Winner 8 Championship Game
6 Team Tournament
Teams seeded into two pools
Pool A: #1, 4, 5
Pool B: #2, 3, 6
Pool A plays each of the teams in Pool B as cross-over play guaranteeing each team playing 3 games. Team with higher seeding is "home" for R1.
R1 Friday night: 1 vs 2; 3 vs 4; 5 vs 6
R2 Saturday: 1 vs 3; 4 vs 6; 5 vs 2
R3 Saturday: 1 vs 6; 4 vs 2; 5 vs 6
All teams to be seeded 1 thru 6 to determine placement and advancement, using tie breaker rules if necessary. Top 4 seeds advance. to semis.
R4 Sunday -Semi Finals : Seed 1 vs Seed 4; Seed 2 vs Seed 3
R5 Sunday -Championship Game : Winners of the two semi final games
7 Team Tournament
League standings 1 thru 7 determines "home" team in R1 game. Each team plays 3 round robin games against each other to determine seeding for Semis and/ or Championship.
Play two round robin games and then reseed the teams to then play single elimination.
R1 Friday night: 2 vs 7; 3 vs 6; 4 vs 5; 1--no game Friday night
R2 Saturday: 1(R1) vs 7 ; 2 vs 5; 3 vs 4; 1(R2) vs 6
Teams seeded 1 thru 7 to determine advancement, using tie breaker rules if necessary.
